I believe one of the doctor's important roles is that of teacher for his patients. It is not enough to diagnose and prescribe treatment. Good medicine consists of educating the patient in the nature of the disease, while providing suggestions for prevention and nonpharmaceutical methods to help in getting well. Patients are complex individuals, and I try to take time to understand the individual's makeup and concerns beyond the presenting symptoms.

Dr. Moyce was born in Buffalo New York, and in early childhood moved to Southern California. He graduated from Aquinas High School in San Bernardino. He came to the Bay Area to attend USF, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He spent three years in Spain, studying at the University of Madrid. He later enrolled in the School of Medicine, University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, obtaining his M.D. degree in 1972.

He did a rotating internship at the Wilmington Medical Center in Delaware, and then moved to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania for residency in general surgery and Otolaryngology. This took place at Mercy Hospital, and at the University of Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Hospital. He was certified by the American board of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery in 1977. He joined the United States Air Force, and was stationed at March Air Base in Riverside CA, attaining the rank of Major. He was director of Otolaryngology services for the Regional Hospital at March.

He settled in Oakland in 1979, founding the practice which was to become Summit ENT.

He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, as well as the American Academy of Otolaryngology. He has been married since 1970, and lives with his wife and three children in Oakland.

He enjoys volunteer work to bring medical care to underserved Spanish-speaking patients. He donates time at the Clinica de la Raza in East Oakland, and travels with Christian medical mission groups to Mexico and South America.

Dr. Moyce serves on the Boards of several organizations. He is a Delegate on the Board of Directors for the Alta Bates Summit Hospital Foundation, and member of the Board of Directors of the Hill Physicians Medical Group. He is a founding member on the Board of International Medical Assistance, a Christian organization that delivers health care to patients in Mexico.

Dr. Lewis was born in Brooklyn NY., and raised in Philadelphia, PA. A career in medicine was an early choice, largely influenced by the example of his father, a practicing Philadelphia internist. That decision led him to Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, where, as a premed student, he earned his degree in French. After completing his college degree, Dr. Lewis spent a year studying at the Sorbonne, University of Paris. He studied literature, theater, and philosophy.

After completing his Medical degree at the State University of New York at Syracuse, an internship in Long Island, NY, and a year-long research fellowship at New York University, Dr. Lewis began his residency in ENT at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. In Rochester he was fascinated with the ear and hearing-not only with the array of diseases that affect this organ, but with the microsurgical methods that are currently in use to address these problems. This new interest led him to pursue further training in otology and neurotology (medical and microsurgical management of hearing and balance disorders) at the Florida Ear and Sinus center.

Humanitarian medicine and relief work are of great interest to Dr. Lewis as well. In May of 2000, he was awarded the American Academy of Otolaryngology -Head and Neck surgery's humanitarian fellowship award. With their support, as well as that of the Ear Research Foundation and the PRASAD Project, he traveled to India. He spent one year in an impoverished region there, and helped to develop clinical services in Ear, Nose, and Throat for a population of over 200,000 people. This was a highlight in Dr. Lewis' career.

While Dr. Lewis sees many patients for very specific problems, his approach is patient-centered, and broad enough to include the entire person in the solution. He feels it is his highest duty and honor to serve his community and patients with Love and Compassion. Dr. Lewis is also fluent in Spanish.
